This Mistake Costs You Thousands Of Dollars

People say “never judge a book by its cover”. It’s all well and good, but people do it anyway.

Do you know why? It’s because the cover, or even the title, is the first thing we see.

So, naturally, our brain thinks “Oh, this looks good. It must be a good book. Let’s read it.”

Or, it thinks “Nope, not interesting.” And you put the book right where you found it.

It’s the first impressions that count most. They decide EVERYTHING.

In Your Business, First Impressions Are Headlines. Or “Hooks”

You’re reading this because the title made you curious.

You thought “wait, what’s this thousand-dollar mistake?” And here you are reading it.

What makes you watch a movie you’ve never heard about before? The summary.

But, you only decide to look at the summary AFTER you looked at the image and the movie title.

The headline is supposed to hook the viewer into your content.

Basically, your website, social media, ads, etc. are all useless if nobody even looks at them.

You can have the best website on the planet. A website that will make people buy. Every. Single. Time. And yet, it will be useless if people don’t visit it.

That’s why you’ve got to have a good headline for everything.

I would even say 80% of the work is coming up with a great headline.

Here’s What You Should Avoid In The Hook

The reason I said that your hook is 80% of the work is because, yes it’s the most important (I’m repeating myself because it really is), but also it CAN’T be “just anything”.

You’ve got to put some effort into it.

Here’s 3 things your headline can’t be:

  1. Your company name.

I feel like it’s simple. Don’t have the name of your company as the first thing others see.

Don’t just talk about YOU from the start. They don’t care.

If you’re a tree surgeon, and your business is called “Tree Healing Inc”, don’t have that as the headline. Instead put “Heal your tree in 2 weeks” (more on good headline writing techniques later).

But, you must avoid doing mistake #2:

  1. Your service.

When’s the last time you went on Google to explore sites? Well, if you have more than 27 IQ, I bet it’s never.

You don’t click on a site NOT knowing what you’re looking for.

- If I’m looking for plumbers, I click on a site expecting plumbing stuff. Then, don’t write "Plumbing services”. I expect it.

- If I’m looking for a spa, I click on a site expecting spa stuff. Then, don’t write “Spa relaxation”. I expect it.

If it’s a social media post or ad, just mentioning your services is wayyyyyyy too vague. Which leads me to point #3:

  1. Vagueness.

Don’t be vague in your headline. Be straight with them. Give them immediately the benefit. If it’s what they’re looking for, you will immediately catch their attention.

How To Write A Good Headline

The best tip I can give you is to just make it simple and direct.

Look at the previous example: “Heal your tree in 2 weeks”. That’s a good headline.

No corporate, middle-manager level BS. It’s simple and straight to the point. It reveals the benefits of working with them. It’s efficient.

You’re looking to grab attention. Like the title/cover of a book or movie.

Short.

Simple.

Straight to the point.

And, since you’re running a business, have a solid benefit included.
